Therapy Approach

The theoretical orientations that serve as the basis of my work include a person centered approach to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Logotherapy (Existential Psychotherapy).

In short, this means I place significant weight on developing a mindset centered on finding meaning, purpose and control in your day to day life as a means to overall happiness and contentment.
I take a holistic and integrative approach to counseling with consideration to biological, psychological, social and spiritual aspects of your life.

I will integrate various forms of behavioral, motivational and solution focused therapy techniques as clinically appropriate to resolve the specific concerns that you desire to work on. With this I will simultaneously be working to support you in the development of a stronger sense of identity, meaning and control over your life to support long-term success with your goals long after counseling has ended.

With children and adults, I rely on creative means of engagement to ensure the intervention matches the readiness and learning style of the individual. In addition to traditional therapy techniques, I also often employ the use of coaching strategies for mindset, ADHD and other applicable concerns.
Techniques utilized in sessions may include:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy Techniques
Motivational Interviewing (MI)
Solution Focused Brief Counseling
Logotherapy/ Existential Analysis
I firmly support that therapy is beneficial for individuals who may not have a diagnosis or an extended history of concerns. I see therapy as an opportunity to take a step out of your day to day experience to gain new perspective through working with a person who has no personal gain or consequence related to your personal life decisions. This allows for evaluation of problem areas and planning action steps truly based on your own personal desires rather than the plans others have for you.

My style of counseling has been particularly successful with individuals who are struggling with identity development, life transitions (changes in career, relationships, other lifestyle elements) and finding motivation to maintain or change things about their lives. One of my most effective areas is working with college and graduate students who are struggling with feeling “stuck” both academically and personally between their goals and the work/ time it will take to reach them. My experience in both career and interpersonal counseling allow for a balanced approach to this phase of life.

“Man does not simply exist but always decides what his existence will be, what he will become the next moment. By the same token, every human being has the freedom to change at any instant.”

-Viktor Frankl
