About

I'm excited you are here!

I’m Candice Cartner, Nationally Certified and Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor. Please go through this section to learn more about my credentials, experience and approach to counseling. These are very important considerations as you select a new counselor. In addition to my history you will find information about the problems I currently focus my work on, as well as some of the techniques you can expect to see in sessions with me. If you are looking for help with a problem or specific technique that you don’t see listed, feel free to connect and see if it’s something I’m able to do. Even when I can’t help, I do my best to help get you pointed in the direction of someone who can.

EXPERIENCE
I have a work history that includes providing therapy services in the areas of mental health, substance abuse, interpersonal and career counseling in both community and university settings for over 13 years. Throughout my career I have gained significant experience in assessment/ diagnosis, individual therapy, group therapy and crisis intervention with children, adolescents and adults. I've provided couples and family counseling as well.

Since becoming a therapist, I've provided intervention and services for a variety of issues including developmental concerns, ADHD, self-confidence, career planning, identity development, healthy relationships, life balance, sexuality/sexual orientation, substance abuse, depression, anxiety and other mental health concerns. I have also worked as an NC Certified Forensic Screener/ Evaluator.
In addition to direct clinical care, a significant portion of my career prior to founding this practice was dedicated to executive leadership as Clinical & Operational Director to two large multi-site community behavioral health clinics. In those positions, I was responsible to supervise, support and formally train other therapists in various aspects of providing care while also serving on an array of community boards and committees.

As a result of that work, I've had to the opportunity to build a unique and acutely developed understanding of multiple theories and styles of interventions, allowing for flexible and high quality personalized counseling to meet the needs of the people that choose to work with me.

“All of life’s experiences are teachers in some sense, challenging us to grow and evolve.”
